The London 2012 Olympics are in full swing and we’ve heard enough fish and chips puns to last us until the 2016 Summer games in Rio de Janeiro.
That said, the Olympic fervor that has overcome news outlets, advertising and social media is a welcomed (albeit competitive and patriotic) change of pace. And food is no exception, if anything it is yet another catalyst for heritage and pride. On that note, here’s a redux of this week’s happenings in our favorite food blogs:
While we’re on the subject of the Olympics (and who isn’t, btw) we would like to take a moment and congratulate SanTan Brewing on their gold and bronze medals at the U.S. Beer Championships in Atlanta. According to Mouth By Southwest, more than 1,650 beers competed in 65 categories. Read about their victory here.
Phoenix Bites is reporting that Tempe’s World of Beer is set to open August 8 … just in time to catch the end of the summer games while sipping on one of their more than 500 craft beers from around the world. Looking for a specific country to cheer for brew sip on? More information here. Unfortunately, with so many grand opening events planned (not to mention the time difference) you might not actually be able to see or hear any Olympics news coverage. No problemo, there’s always football season.
What better way to cheer on Team USA than with an all-american hamburger? Mouth BY Southwest has the not-so-traditional lineup of burgers that will be featured as part of Liberty Market’s Burger Daze beginning today and running throughout the month of August. See the listing of the 31 different specialty burgers (a different one each day) here. Side note: anyone who eats 10 burgers in the series will get a $25 gift card and anyone who eats all 31 gets a $100 gift card, so get to it. U-S-A! U-S-A!
Oh, and if it is fish and chips you’re after, no hard feelings. Here’s Chow Bella’s top picks for British grub.
